As beam forming techniques grow mature and environment varies, adaptive beam forming is a definitely attractive solution in the near future. To meet such need, two approaches have been developed.
1. Fixed antennas, adaptive weights
Using SDS’s perturbation algorithm, real time adaptive weights are achieved with minimizing the cost function. We can see clearly how it works from the plotting. With this technology the wanted sources signal can be enhanced and the unwanted sources signal can be nulled.
2. Adjustable antennas position
An automatic mechanical adjustable antenna position with the SDS’s perturbation algorithm is utilized for beam forming. Each antenna is driven by a stepping motor controlled by computer. Currently, only one dimension adjustment is demonstrated, however multi-dimension approaching is also possible.
